Artist Statement

Ever since I was a little girl drawing with a stick in the dirt at the foot of my rural front porch steps I have been fascinated with fitting shapes together to make designs. Every large or small element within a painting is part of the puzzle that comes together to form the design of the art work.

Like all artists, I evolve through various stages in my artwork. In some periods, interested in light, some in color, some in perspective. Since many of my paintings feature buildings found in nearby historical Charleston, SC, viewers often think that I am particularly interested in depicting architecture. Although I find these structures to be beautiful, I only extract their forms to create art. Choosing which way to arrange the bits and pieces to create an exciting image is the goal!

Continuing to grow as an artist is every painter's desire and mine is tophoto_east_coast_print continually explores new ways of expressing my craft. Other themes will appear as work develops even further, but the basics of design, light and color will always remain dominate. There are no deep, mysterious, psychological meanings that these scenes are supposed to portray. They are paintings that please and thrilled me to execute. I hope you will enjoy them too!
